The Brains Behind The Kannywood Film Industry

This recent years, there has been a change or rather a new style in the Kannywood film industry, especially on series movies, that took a long time to ended.

As it is well familiar before, films are made in the Kannywood film industry, and divided into one, two or three episodes. But in this recent development, the filmmakers have come up with a new style that a movie will last for months, and is shown every week by releasing of a new episode or season.

Among such popular movies in the Northern Nigeria includes Gidan Badamasi, Dadin Kowa and Labarina.

It is well known that for anything to gain such acceptance, there must be people behind the scenes who are determined to make it stand out.

In this article, a look has been made at the producers of Dadin Kowa, Kwana Casa'in, Gidan Badamasi and Labarina movie series.

1. Salisu T. Balarabe - Dadin Kowa and Kwana Casa'in movies.

Salisu T. Balarabe is the producer of Dadin Kowa and Kwana Casa'in movie series airing on Arewa24 satellite TV channel. Salisu is the chairman of ACCUTZ Media, a film production company.

With an educational background in filmmaking, and experience in journalism, he is also good in script writing and computer knowledge. He previously served as vice president of the Northern Photography Association (GAVE) and secretary of the MPEG Photographers Association.

Salisu T. Balarabe has received many awards both at home and abroad.

The Dadin Kowa movie series produced by Salisu is being aired every Saturday at 8pm, and the Kwana Casa'in on every Sunday at 8pm.

Among the films directed by Salisu are Taron Dangi, Gantali, Zo Muje, Halimatus Sadiya and Sansanin Taurari among others, and all these are not series movies.

So far, Dadin Kowa film has over 250 episodes combined together with Dadin Kowa, Dadin Kowa Sabon Salo and Dadin Kowa Wasa farin girki.

According to Salisu T Balarabe, the Kwana Casa'in film was created specifically to highlight the problem of corruption in the country.

2. Falalu Dorayi - Gidan Badamasi film

Falalu Abubakar Dorayi is the chairman of Dorayi Films and Distribution Limited, which produces the film Gidan Badamasi on the Arewa24 satellite TV channel every Thursday.

Falalu started his film career in 1997 after graduating from high school. Dorayi is one of the big filmmakers in the Kannywood film industry, and sometimes even as a Director and also appears as an actor.

It was in the year 2019 that he first directed and made his debut in the Gidan Badamasi film series.

According to Falalu Dorayi, he created Gidan Badamasi film due to the negligence he realized being existing in the Kannywood industry on comedy films.

"In the past, my films focused on social issues and crime. So I saw the comedy films were being shot in few days, so I changed my mind," Falalu said.

"That's why even when I was invited to start making a series movie, I just got involved in the comedy section and created the Gidan Badamasi, because I was more comfortable with with such type," Falalu added.

Falalu is a script writer and so far has directed more than a hundred films. He has also five times won the award for the most experienced film director.

In his carrier, Falalu Dorayi has collaborated with major international and domestic agencies in film, such as UNICEF, to raise awareness in northern Nigeria about the importance of breastfeeding, and polio vaccine.

3. Aminu Saira - Labarina Film series

Aminu Muhammad Ahmad popularly known as Aminu Saira is a famous director and filmmaker in the Kannywood film industry.

Saira is the chairman of Saira Movies, and is the producer of Labarina film, which is being aired on the Arewa24 satellite TV every Monday at 8pm.

He has written and directed many films in the Kannywood film industry such as Jamila da Jamilu, Ashabul Kahafi, Ga Duhu Ga Haske, Maryam Diyana, Dare Da Yawa, Rai da Rai and many more.

Aminu is a brother to famous hausa singers Misbahu M Ahmad and Naziru M Ahmad popularly known as "Sarkin Waka" .

Aminu Saira has won many awards in the film industry, and in the year 2014 he has won the Jurors Choice Awards.

Saira revealed that he started the Labarina film after considering how the attention of Hausa film viewers began to shift to movie series of the Indians.

Aminu Saira is one of the most expensive directors in Kannywood film industry, and in 2016, Aminu Saira was named the best director in the industry, as reported by the BBC hausa.
